The Department of Laboratory Medicine at Manipal Hospitals, Bangalore is the first hospital based laboratory in India to get accredited by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), across its entire scope of services.This department functions 24x7 with emphasis on accuracy, precision and reproducibility of the medical reports.
Each individual section such as Clinical Biochemistry, Clinical Pathology, Haematology, Microbiology, Molecular Pathology, Serology, Histopathology and Cytopathology is led by a team of experts with specialised training both in India and USA. This team is well supported by excellent technical staff and phlebotomists.
Our Biochemistry section has a state of art, fully automated integrated clinical chemistry and immunoassay analysers, HPLC, Capillary electrophoresis systems which is able to provide 24/7 services and performs more than 2.5 lakh tests per month.These tests mainly comprise of Chemistry, Immunoassays, Toxicology, testing for Haemoglobin disorders and a large number of medical drug levels.
Microbiology is well equipped with facilities for automated blood culture and bacterial and fungal identifications.This section offers a large panel of serological tests using ELISA and VIDAS. The molecular pathology laboratory is well equipped with thermal cyclers- both conventional, real time and flow cytometer. The latest World Health Organisation (WHO) approved diagnostic modality for Tuberculosis – the Xpert MTB system is the most recent value addition.
The HLA laboratory includes HLA cross matching and HLA typing facilities. Molecular diagnosis of Tuberculosis, Cytomegalovirus, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C is routinely done here.
Our laboratory is a government approved center for H1N1 testing in Bangalore. Haematology laboratory performs all high end tests for Haematological Malignancies including study of Minimal Residual Disease, Bleeding and Coagulation disorders.
The Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplant program in Manipal Hospitals is well supported by the Haematology and Molecular Pathology Section. Histopathology and Cytopathology section caters to over 25,000 samples each year, with fully automated Immunohistochemistry, Immunoflurosence and round the clock frozen sections.
The Nephropathology team handles one of the highest volumes of renal biopsies and also runs an advanced course in Renal Diseases. In its constant endeavour of maintaining and providing the highest standard of healthcare, the laboratory participates in extensive Quality Assurance programs both Internal and External in nature.
